Logo design should always be treated very seriously... even when it's for a not-so-serious company. When it comes to logo design I only operate in two Modes (see help), Tasty and Hot Damn. This means that there are a lot of meeting and revise rounds. We'll work on your logo until we've exhausted every avenue.
How does logo design work?
There are several main steps (each involves a phone meeting where we study materials I've posted online):
- Collecting Data - We study the landscape. Your Allies and your Competitors
logos are studied to find color schemes to avoid, bugs (icons) to stay
away from and themes to keep (A bioTech logo should look like a bioTech
logo).
- Review of Terminology, Fonts and Color - It's important
that we're on the same page when I say something like "word-mark"
or "bug". I'll show you various font options with your company's
name to see which direction to take the font.
- First Review - Depending on the Design Mode I'll present
8 or 10-14 different logo choices. We narrow down the selection to
iterate on and decide if more options are necessary. Typically3 or
so are chosen for reworking. A winner may even emerge right away or
we take our time and go through a dozen revamps. It's always a little
different. We'll meet once or twice a week with the following rounds.
- Reviews - Each review is a chance for you to tell me
what things you'd like to try with the narrowing selection of logos. "Change
the color to a softer green", "Make the font a bit thicker" and "Try it
in all lower case" are common things to hear. Your team may want to go
in different directions so make sure there is a ring leader!
- Use Examples - When clients of the Hot Damn Mode are getting close to a decision I will make some simple comps using the 2 or 3 contenders. Mock flyers, postcards, print ads and other media are shown with the logos and color schemes. This helps to bring the logos to a more tangible light for picking the winner. It may also produce the beginnings of a style guide.
Once we have settled upon your logo I build out a Master PDF with all the specs on the logo. In addition I create multiple file types in various sizes and color modes. The files are posted online in a zip file for your immediate download and then backed up on CD and shipped to you.
It's an experience that will make you feel fantastic about your logo and company identity! And I'm here to help continue building upon your brand.

"Kaz created two fantastic logos for me! One for my golf school and another for my wine label. He carried them both through multiple print and websites for a full and clear branding that makes me feel confident about how people receive both entities. Kaz has become my go-to gut for all my design needs because he's fair, fast, talented and a pleasure to work with. I even made him put this on his website even though he doesn't like testimonials!"
